About Us

This is our first ever blog so baby steps I think. Actually this whole travel thing is new to me. I have always wanted to travel the world, see what everyone else is eating, drinking, wearing and what they are all about. Doing it on the back of a motorbike with my most favorite husband in the world just makes it all the more exciting and challenging.

Emina

Hey, my name is Emina but most people call me Em. With no real experience in motorbike travelling, I’m just your average middle-aged Aussie girl who is not afraid to say that I do like the nicer things in life and the fact that I am going to have extremely bad hair for the next two years is a worrying factor for me but I truly am with all of my heart looking forward to the ups and the downs, the mental challenges I will be facing and the people I am going to meet along the way. So look out world here I come.

About Me

Hi, there isn’t allot to say really, I have been riding and rebuilding bikes since I was 10 with my first being a 1970 Yamaha CS2 180cc and YZ 80 C through to Honda CB 360’s and 550 4 SuperSports then KLR’s, Ag bikes, Suzuki Katana’s, RM’s and GSXR’s all the way to now with the BMW GSA. Even though I have ridden allot, I don’t class myself as a good rider…… more a “Solid Rider”, I can’t mono, I can’t jump any great distance and I have never been on a race track………. so I still have allot to learn.

  • travelling on a motorbike appeals to me, it has a sense of rawness to it, rather than being surrounded by four walls; you are exposed to the elements……….. there is more of a connection with the environment;
  • I need to do something else with my life, in that we have a home, good jobs, kids are great and grown up and I am secure in my current state. It would be very easy to stay in this state and simply keep living and going on weekend rides, mowing the lawns, doing odd jobs around the house etc…… But as hard as its going to be I need to take the jump. I have faith in our abilities and I know the Sun will always rise in the morning and things will work out one way or the other;
  • I enjoy the technical side of things and the challenges presented in getting us to this point. Pulling the brand new bike apart to see how it works; the fitting of bits and pieces to the bike; the research in to items before we purchase, the reading of forums, posting questions and comments; the listening to Pod Casts (ARR), I enjoy all that side of things. I need to be careful that this time off is not just another accomplishment to be ticked off before moving onto the next one; I need to take the time, slow down and enjoy my time with Em and the people we will meet along the way;
  • I’m also looking forward to the challenges and seeing how I cope in various situations. Em and I work together well and I’m looking forward to seeing that team work develop further; and I love the outdoors and the chance to be able to ride along, stop in the middle of no where and be present in the moment, listening to the sounds, soaking in the surrounds…….. those are the things I am looking forward to.

Over the years I have done various jobs, as we all have, but my preference is for outside, harder more physical tasks which is why I’ve ended up in construction and in particular in the Health and Safety Field. Over the years we have been lucky to work through the mining boom and been able to make some good financial decisions which have helped us with what we’re about to embark on. I also hope to try to provide as much info to those who might stumble across these pages to help them on their own journeys.

You may note I haven’t even mentioned the travel, meeting people etc; we haven’t put much time and research in to exactly what we are going to do once we get to Santiago, other than to say once we get there we will turn left and head towards the Equator as we’ll be coming into Winter, otherwise the actual travel side will work itself out as we go along. As for meeting people…. well I’ll talk to anyone so that’s the easy part.
